The Road Ahead: Key Insights From CharterUP’s 2026 Operator Survey

Published October 8, 2026

What’s shaping the charter bus industry in 2026? We asked the people who know the industry best: the operators behind the wheel.

CharterUP’s annual Road Ahead survey offers a mid-year look at the opportunities and challenges facing our network of bus company partners, including business performance, demand, rising costs, fleet planning and the factors shaping the industry.

Business Remains Strong

Nearly 70% of operators rate their 2026 performance as Good, Great, or Exceptional, with 41% saying it’s been Great or Exceptional. Strong group travel demand and major events like the FIFA World Cup are driving added volume across markets.

The World Cup Delivered.  And Motorcoaches Led the Way.

The FIFA World Cup created meaningful opportunities for operators across the CharterUP network. A third of operators who worked World Cup contracts logged 41 or more bus days, while the majority rated their experience a 7 or higher out of 10.

That demand also reinforces the continued strength of the motorcoach market. 95% of our operators run motorcoaches, and 72% say they’re the highest-demand vehicle type, followed by minibuses.

Operators see the value of a connected network.

As demand grows and the industry evolves, operators continue to see value in being part of a connected marketplace.

79% rate CharterUP as Extremely, Very, or Moderately Valuable in growing their business, while more than 8 in 10 say CharterUP generates trips of equal or higher quality than other third-party sources. Pre-Qualified Trip Requests also ranked as the platform’s most valuable benefit, cited by 42% of operators.

These findings offer a snapshot of where the industry stands today and what operators are watching as we head toward 2027.
